Homebound is a seven-piece fusion world music band, blending music from several cultures with the linking element of the drone. 

 

Founded in 2005, it has performed at festivals throughout Europe, including Celtic Connections, Piping Live!, Interkeltisches Folkfestival and Gaelic Crossroads Keltisch Festival. With a unique sound defined by transforming a variety of cultures and musical genres into a sensational new concept,

 

Homebound creates an intensely spellbinding musical experience which has been described as "surely the coolest new music genre around" (Arts Journal, Scotland). Homebound as played for live audiences around the world and published one album.

 

Allan MacDonald

Allan MacDonald

Scottish pipes, Voice and Jews Harp Allan MacDonald is internationally recognised for revitalising the ancient art of pibroch through Gaelic song. He has won the Clasp at the Northern Meeting,piping’s highest honour,twice (1989 and 1990). Rooted deeply in the traditions of the Scottish Highlands and the Gaelic language, Allan has performed at major Celtic and piping festivals worldwide. He has lectured at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and received numerous commissions for BBC television.

Sascha Gotowtschikov

Sascha Gotowtschikov

Eastern Asia percussion and drum kit Sascha Gotowtschikow studied classical percussion at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich and ethnic percussion in New York. He has performed with the Bayerischer Rundfunk and the Münchner Kammerspiele, as well as with the EBU International Big Band, HR Big Band, David Friedman, Klaus Doldinger’s Passport, Charlie Mariano, Matt Garrison, the Modern String Quartet, and Ian Paice (Deep Purple).

Joachim Schiefer

Joachim Schiefer

Cello Joachim Schiefer studied cello with Johannes Goritzki, Wolfgang Boettcher and Siegfried Palm and performed internationally as a soloist and chamber musician. After overcoming focal dystonia in the 1990s, he returned to the stage and has since appeared at festivals including Beethovenfest Bonn and Celtic Connections. Within Homebound, he brings classical depth and rhythmic precision, performing on a modern 5-string cello developed specifically for him.

Hardeep Deerhe

Hardeep Deerhe

Tabla, Padhant Hardeep Deorha is a tabla player trained in the traditional style of Indian grand master Vijay Kangutkar. In addition to his refined rhythmic dexterity, he performs the art of spoken padhant, reciting complex rhythmic syllables with the same precision and speed as he plays. He also incorporates elements of traditional Indian vocal music into his performances.

Thomas Zoeller

Thomas Zoeller

Concertina, whistle, hurdy-gurdy and bagpipes Thomas Zöller is the founder of the band. After completing his studies at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) in Glasgow, he brought together musicians from different traditions and arranged much of the band’s repertoire. He is also the founder of the Dudelsack Akademie in Germany.

Cheyenne Brown

Cheyenne Brown

Harp Cheyenne Brown, originally from Alaska, has been based in Glasgow for many years, studying, teaching and performing Scottish music. She holds a First Class Honours degree in Scottish Music from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (2006) and an MSc in Scottish Ethnology from the University of Edinburgh.

Pedro Aibéo

Pedro Aibéo

Guitar, Bouzouki, Low-Whistle Pedro Aibéo is classically trained in guitar (Portugal) and drumms (Finland) and has performed internationally across jazz, folk and early music contexts. With over ten recordings and thousands of live performances, his work ranges from chamber collaborations to large-scale bagpipe ensembles. He is the founder of World Music School Helsinki.
